Alex Hemingway is a non-executive director and plays an advisory role for the Hemingway Group of companies. He brings domestic and international executive management experience to The Hemingway Group. He founded Hemingway Investments Ltd. in late 2008 which is focused on developing new investments.
Prior to starting his own firm Alex spent two years in Beijing & Hong Kong, China working for HFG LLC. During that time he established their Representative Office for Greater China in Beijing and began the process of evaluating possible investments in manufacturing, retail, real estate and restaurants.
His experience includes his time as CEO/President of Central European Franchise Group, the owner and operator of Pizza Hut and Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants in Hungary. His leadership led to multiple-year double-digit same-store-sales growth for both brands as well as the highest customer feedback scores in the region. For his breakthrough efforts in the area of service he was awarded the first YUM! European Customer Mania Award in 2001 for the building and successful implementation of a comprehensive operational customer response program. Despite his active involvement in CEFG, Mr. Hemingway also simultaneously managed and served as the Director of Orient Rt., Central Europe’s largest independent restaurant company with over 130 operating units based in Budapest, Hungary.
Prior to his dual roles, Mr. Hemingway served as the Operational Director of Orient Vendeglato Rt. As part of his work he has also developed and executed comprehensive business entry strategies for both retail and restaurant concepts into the emerging markets of Central Europe and Greater China, respectively.
He has served as the Director of the Fast Food Association of Hungary, and on the Boards of Central European Franchise Group and Orient Vendeglato Rt. He presently serves on the Boards of The Hemingway Foundation and on the Board of Supervisors of Budapest Honved Football Club as well as the Board of Bel-Air Presbyterian Preschool. Mr. Hemingway holds a BA from Pepperdine University’s Seaver College. He is fluent in English and Hungarian and is presently working on his Spanish.
